First Post - Job-Seeker's Journey

Hello World! I have finally decided to enter the blog world and share with you all my journey as a job searcher hence the title "Job-Seeker's Journey." Why am I looking for work you ask? Well, I recently completed an intensive MBA program and had the opportunity to work as an intern for a PR firm and a contract term at another company subsequently. After my contract ended in March 2010 (unfortunately there was no further opportunity available at the company) , I have been out on the job market seeking work. This has been the most challenging, frustrating, and depressing time of my life however, I am not giving up. I have realized I need to look outside of the box and perhaps the city I reside (in Canada) and see how and where I can leverage my education and experience towards landing a job and ultimately developing a satisfying career. The purpose of the blog is to share my learnings, failures and successes during this journey. There is alot I have learned already and lot still TO learn.

The One-Year Anniversary

For many an "1-year anniversary" is associated with a special and milestone event - such as a wedding anniversary and is usually a cause for celebration. Well not so much for me. Recently, the one year anniversary of my unemployment came and I definitely did not pop open a bottle of champagne and celebrate, rather I sulked, cried a bit and just looked back how tough this past year has been for me.

I truly believe we all are supposed to go through difficult times to challenge ourselves, question who we are and what makes us happy and to appreciate what we do have and who we have in our lives. That is definitely something that I am glad that has come out of this situation - my relationships with my family and friends has strengthened and I am not the materialistic shopping-crazy gal I used to be. I came to the realization stuff doesn't make me happy but rather experiences.

However, this year has been the most stressful and anxiety-ridden time of my life. I truly hope I will be looking back at this time with fondness and appreciation. Nevertheless, despite the lessons I may have learned during this one year journey, I definitely do not want to mark a SECOND ANNIVERSARY! Moving forward, that is my ultimate goal - not to mark another year of unemployment. I am working hard to achieve this and do believe my efforts will pay off.
